I received the book Special Cupcakes, by Wendy Sweetser last week, and wanted to share with you all what a great cupcake book it is!
I have made a couple of the recipes now, and have also used some of the designs and it is a really simple, easy-to-use book which provides great results. I used the recipe for the GIANT Sweetie Cupcake and was really pleased with how the cake come out (Pictures can be seen above)
It has given me some good ideas for designs and decorations, and also provided some good, slightly different recipes for me to try out. It also has a good ‘basics’ section for equipment, ingredients and tips for beginners. A great book if you would like to try some different style cupcakes. My next recipe to try is the Beetroot & Bitter chocolate cupcakes!
On the 5th October 2010, Oxford Cupcakes was born! I had spent the previous few months testing recipes, learning new decorating skills and generally preparing for what I hoped was going to be a successful, small business.
It very quickly grew much bigger than I expected, and I found myself thoroughly enjoying running my own business! One year on and I can easily say it was the best decision I ever made, and I have loved the last year. I still get the same thrill when I get an order through, I love planning new designs and my favourite part is going out and meeting customers at food fairs & craft shows.
I just want to say a massive thank you to all those that have supported me on this journey, whether it be through buying cupcakes from me, giving me amazing advice on Twitter or just general support from my friends & family.
Let’s hope every year is as successful as the last has been!
